F-Plan can be soaked with a little warm water, but it is advisable to feed it dry as the crunchy texture of the kibble will help to keep your dogs teeth clean and help to control tartar build up.
As with any new food, introduce F-Plan gradually over a period of one week.
Feed your dog the recommended amount based on their body weight as detailed above.
Unlike some weight control style feeds on the market, we do not advise you to cut meal portions (unless you have been over-feeding your dog). In our opinion if a dog is hungry then they will look for something to eat – it is in their nature to do so! Starving your dog is not recommended and will generally only lead to ‘begging’ and ‘scavenging’.
Remember, the overall calorie content of F-Plan is much lower than a regular dog food, so even if your dog eats the same amount of F-Plan as they did of their previous standard food- they will be consuming less calories. It is important that you do not over feed your dog though, so we advise that you stick to our recommended amounts as shown above and on the reverse of the bag.
Once you have fully introduced F-Plan into your dog’s diet, you may actually notice that they seem to be eating less than before… rest assured this is normal and happens because the food is digested more slowly as it is higher in fibre. As a result, your dog should feel fuller for longer from the bulk of the fibre and consequently this should help to reduce the dog’s desire to overeat.
It is very important that fresh and clean drinking water is available to your dog at all times
